TURF TALK FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Next week we will be applying the spring/summer pre-emergent herbicide treatment to minimize spring/summer weeds from germinating, due to our short staff it will take 3 days to complete versus two. February is our shoulder month of the season which means we are in clean up mode and will continue our green fertilization and potassium inputs for grass health coming out of dormancy.

The maintenance equipment has been serviced, cleaned and ready for the new season. We are currently in talks about equipment purchases that will enable us to manage the pine straw and cones much better. Our process over the years has been to blow them around the golf course and tree rings which is very time/labor intensive, so, we are exploring new ways to make that entire process much more efficient and, in the end, have a much more attractive golf course with enhanced playability.

More to come about March through May projects, right now they are in the hopper, waiting to come to fruition.
