Turf Talk From The Supentendent
Dear Members,
Before I discuss what’s happening in March. Let’s recap February. The main line irrigation break on hole number nine has been repaired and is operating as it should be.
The golf course was treated for summer weeds via the course pre-emergent application that took place on the twenty fourth and twenty fifth of February and it went very smoothly and without incident. The course is fully returned to the membership this morning on the twenty sixth of February at 8 am as scheduled.
Our March weather forecast is much better than February was, and it seems as though we are moving into spring a little early, which I am certain is good for most of us. Our maintenance team has been working diligently through the cold to prepare the equipment for the summer stresses.
Now that the weather has been decided to work with us, the rest of February and March will be focused on tree line work, our goal is to mulch, vacuum up as much of the pine straw, pinecones from the course as possible.
We will embark on a new fairway and all shortgrass fertilization program that will take Coharie to a new height of quality. Additionally, we are researching the best way to incorporate a first cut of rough on the golf course that will showcase our already beautiful fairways as well as add an additional layer of playability to the rough line. I will discuss the green renovation between now and April’s newsletter.
Thank you for your continued and much needed support.
Fairways and greens…
Mike
