GREENS PROJECT
Below are the scheduled guidelines for the green conversion work:
April 1st- spray the greens and a thirty-six-inch band around the greens with a combination of Glyphosate and Fusilade II, then 7-10 days later spray them again. The third application on the 20th will be Glyphosate only and it will be the capstone to kill off whatever grass still lingers in growth. Golfers can still play until the day we start stripping the greens until approximately May 1st .
May 1- Signet Golf Associates will begin stripping the greens and thirty-six inches around each green to determine where the original green is, to recapture it. They will re-sod the green collars in the middle of July. After the greens are stripped, they will begin the process of removing up to 4-6 inches of topsoil and replacing it with an appropriate mix of sand and soil by tilling to achieve proper topical runoff of rain and irrigation etc. At this time, the soil/sand will be floated (shaped), rolled and watered to a particular hardness.
May 19th week (weather dependent)- with the assistance of New Life Turf staff, our maintenance staff as well as member volunteers, we will sprig the greens (half of a day) and then New Life Turf will disc the sprigs into the ground. I will immediately begin watering and fertilizing the greens and thus the grow-in begins. From this day, the 10-week process will begin.
The dates below represent a 10-week grow-in period; however, this is weather dependent. It must be good, and we have very little washout due to storms or irrigation issues, which require repair. If all goes according to plan, the membership should be back on the greens during the week of August 4th at the latest. However, it could be as late as September, if the weather does not heat up as expected and/or the current greens do not come out of dormancy as expected.
