Coharie Country Club and the larger community had the pleasure of celebrating George Williams’ 103rd birthday on Saturday August 29th. Led by his longtime friend Tommy Tucker, a line of cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, and golf carts rode by George’s house as he and his family sat out front. It was ironic that George’s birthday coincided with the first round of this year’s club championship given that he has won the tournament 20 times. The Club presented to George a flag signed by all of the competitors in this year’s event. Brent Parrish successfully de-fended his championship, but had to fend off three young challengers barely half his age. Hearing this George would chuckle and say “get used to it Brent, I had to do that for decades.”
