NEWS FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

February is here, and it is once again time for preemergent. I have already sprayed around greens and approaches. I have also sprayed the drier areas of the course to get ahead of impending rain. I will be out again this week to spray the remaining areas. I will also be putting a granular preemergent out in the areas to wet to spray.

We have finished repairing the cart barn, this included new boards for the roof and new roofing material to keep it dry underneath. We also have pressure washed the maintenance office, the deck, and the brick around the clubhouse. We will at some point be treating the deck with water sealant to protect it for years to come.

Hopefully, we will soon get relief from the pattern of rain we have been under. Some of our new equipment is in and will be ready to go when the turf is ready and growing again. We have received our newer fairway and rough mowers. We have also gotten our new turf gator to help with our staff getting things done easier. Our new sprayer and greens mower should be arriving soon.

As we enter the growing season ahead, be aware of continuing wet conditions. Please be vigilant in where you are driving carts and help keep our turf from damage.

We are working on a new program to help keep the Poa Annua off the greens and surrounds next year. This has been one of my biggest headaches over the last couple winters. We have resistance to several chemicals used heavily in past years. I am working with Richard and a few of my chemical salesmen to find a better program for years to come. Hopefully, we can come to a solution that will give us the results we need to eradicate this weed from our course.

Sincerely,

Kevin McCamy, GCS
