NEWS FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Hello warmer weather, you could not have come at a better time.
April sure was a busy month, and I am glad that we had very little rain to get everything done. It has allowed us to begin to dry out in quite a few areas. We have been able to remove the ropes on 2, 11, and narrow them on 17. This has opened more fairways and rough areas to cart traffic. Please still avoid the roped areas.
My crew and I have started our mowing regime for the year. This will only ramp up as warmer temps continue. I was able to get the fairways aerified and cleaned up. I will be going out with our course wide fertilizer application in the next week or two. These couple of steps will get our turf jumping for the season.
Thanks go to Mark Calcutt for helping us with getting a root pruner around the course. This machine cuts the roots that take up the natural water and nutrients that starve the turf under and around trees. It will not harm the trees in any way, but it will show huge benefits to the turf in the next several months. It will also help around cart paths where the roots crack and damage the concrete.
My staff and I will have another busy month getting ready for summer activities to begin. We look forward to warmer temps, normal rainfall, and the continuation of a great golf season.
Sincerely, Kevin McCamy, GCS
