NEWS FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Holes, holes, and more holes; aerification time is here again. We have punched cores on the greens, newer tee boxes, weak areas in fairways and approaches. This process will remove excess thatch in the green allowing for more air, water, and nutrients to move in the soil. It will take a few weeks to heal back up but will be in great condition for our upcoming CGA event.
Our new greens mower has arrived. This is the final piece of our recent equipment package. We mowed with it the last week of June to good reviews. This mower has a brush that stands up the leaf blade, allowing for a more precise cut. This along with Primo (growth regulator) and more frequent topdressing with sand will help our staff present better quality conditions on our greens.
We have hired a few new staff members that are allowing us to get a few more cosmetic things done around the course. It allowed me the time to get out and spray for weeds in our ponds. This was done mid-June and it is still showing the signs of dying off. We will get out and spray again in a couple months with a last application in the winter. I must watch the type of chemical used in the ponds on 1 and 9 due to these being irrigation ponds for the golf course.
Mark Calcutt has been going back around the course with a root grinder. This process will shave off the root even with the surface. This will allow us to be able to mow areas that have been impossible to get our mowers without damage to the equipment. Huge thanks go to Mark for his help and use of his own equipment to help us better our course.
Construction work continues on cart paths and other projects around the course. So be careful and mindful of your surroundings when on the golf course. Always check in to the pro shop before playing the course, they can guide you to where play starts and areas to watch out for.
Sincerely, Kevin McCamy, GC
