2022 GEORGE WILLIAMS INVITATIONAL
The George Williams 4 Ball Invitational was held on September 24-25. The tournament is a revival of the Coharie Invitational after being dormant for more than 30 years. It honors Mr. George Williams, a lifelong member of Coharie Country Club. This was the third staging of this event. The field this year was filled with many players that are regular competitors in CGA Championships. Included were former CGA Championship winners: Trey Howell, Brent Parrish, Anthony Conn, Preston Edmondson, John Larkin Spell and Greg Norris. The championship division winners this year were Trey Howell and Bryce Chaffee. Howell and his father, Gene Howell, were the 2019 Championship division winners. There are three divisions in this event, Championship division, open to any players wishing to compete for the overall championship. The Senior division is for golfers age 55 to 65 and the Super Senior division is for golfers over 65. Winners of the Senior division were Preston Edmondson and Tuck Burkinshaw of Cary. Winners of the Super Senior division were defending champions Jack Hooks and John Harshbarger of Wilmington. A special thank you goes to Greg Chittester, Mike Monk and Simon Quintella for all of their hard work in getting the golf course in championship tournament condition. Players raved about the condition of the course and how it played. Volunteers to be thanked for all of the work they did to make the tournament a success are Michael Mason, Barry Taylor, Bob Yow, and Ashley Odum.
