News from the Superintendent
October is here and I am hoping it brings cooler weather with some frost. This month will bring about a few changes for the maintenance guys. Mowing will decrease as the grass begins to slow down before dormancy. It also marks the end of tournament season, with the CGA and Tim’s Gift being our last of the year. October is going to be a month of change.
Preemergent weed control will be out in a few days, and this will get us through the end of the year. I am try-ing a different mode of action this year, which should give more control of the poa. I have found this to be a problem weed that has become resistant to some herbicides used here in the past. So, by trying another mode of action, I hope to see better results.
We have begun to review options for our equipment lease coming next early next year. I have done demos on a few pieces that we are looking at and am quite thrilled with this equipment. I have also started preparation for our chemical inputs for next year, and I will have a plan in place for the boards review by the end of October. This will allow them to make the proper and easier decisions for next year’s budget.
On a personal note, I will hit my 2-year anniversary at Coharie this month. It has been a fun ride so far and I look forward to what the future has to offer. This is an outstanding place and I hope to continue our partner-ship for years to come. Thank you all for allowing me to do the job I love.
Sincerely, Kevin McCamy, GCS
