Golf Cart Traffic

Coharie Country Club Golfers,

I am writing to all our golfers to discuss cart traffic as we head into the winter months. Bermuda grass is a great warm season growing turf and is present throughout our course. Bermuda provides a great playing surface during the warm growing season and handles cart traffic very well while it is growing and thriving. As the weather changes and we head into the late fall and winter, the Bermuda grass has stopped growing and is entering dormancy.

We all must do our part to protect our turf through the winter months to ensure that the turf is healthy and able to stand winter temperatures and heavy cart traffic. The mower heights were raised recently on tees and fairways to help prevent winter kill and to provide a good fairway surface to play from.

The management and staff at Coharie Country Club need golfers to be mindful of the following items as we work to maintain and preserve our turf:

  • Keep carts on cart paths or in rough where there are no paths

  • Keep carts away from tees and greens

  • Follow the 90 – degree rule by staying on the cart path or rough and then drive 90 degrees to your ball and then drive straight back out of fairway. If we follow the 90-degree rule, we will greatly reduce the amount of cart traffic at the beginning and end of each fairway.

  • Please obey all cart traffic signs and do not drive carts around roped off areas

  • Please ride with your playing partner to avoid four carts per group if you are comfortable doing so

Thank you in advance for taking these steps to help protect our course through the winter months.
