TURF TALK FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Coharie CC Members,

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.

Near the end of January, we will be applying the spring/summer preemergent herbicide treatment to minimize spring/summer weeds from germinating. Richard will be reaching out the closer we get to those two days of spraying to direct golf cart traffic accordingly.

It is my hope that a spring resodding project will come to fruition so we can repair golf cart ingresses and egresses that have eroded, compacted over time. I am also working on the core aerifier so we can core plug our fairways, surrounds and tee boxes this summer, which will relieve the compaction and allow the hard packed grass to breathe, exchange oxygen and allow nutrients to the sub soil more efficiently.

The rest of December and all of January will entail tennis court cleaning, cart path edging, sprinkler head trimming, ditch line clearing and in general golf course beautification.

I hope each of you have a wonderful time with your families enjoying the holidays and embrace the excitement of a new year right around the corner.

Until then…

Fairways and greens,

Mike
