TURF TALK FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Dear Members,

The major event happening for the course in July will be greens aerification on July 10th and 11th. This process is extremely important for grass health moving into the warmer months of the year. I have inserted a link for you to view the process and reasoning behind it at the bottom of the page.

Our new reel grinder and bed knife sharpener are being put to the test, thus far we have ground five sets of reels and will be grinding many more before the season is over, not only is this a cost savings tool but it is the best way for us to maintain a consistent cut for the greens. This means a more consistent ball roll, less potential for disease and mostly, overall consistency day to day.

We will continue to verticut/groom, top-dress with sand and roll the greens each Monday, this will also contribute to a better and more consistent ball roll. As of today (June 28th ), we started aerifying compacted tee boxes, green surrounds and approaches and will continue to get around the course to relief the major compacted areas throughout the growing season.

Please keep in mind traffic/parking patterns while playing golf that will relief compaction, repair divots and ball marks, also, please hit balls on the range from the roped areas, this will allow us time to regrow the grass, so every time you hit balls it is from a very nice teeing area, we will do the rest.

Our normal daily operations will be to keep Coharie as clean and manicured as we can to include pond banks and wood lines. Day by day, week by week, Coharie shines brighter and brighter. Thank you all for your support and understanding, our maintenance staff is working hard and smartly to maximize our time and minimize play disruptions.

I look forward to hosting some great golf events in the coming months but most importantly, to making our members proud of the course y’all call home.

P.S. this aerification process goes for all aerification that we will be doing around the course through the season.

Until next month…..
