NEW FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
April showers bring May flowers; that is the adage for the opening of spring. Well, I could certainly do without the rain. I would honestly like to go the entire month without having to even look at the rain gauge.
I would like to thank the Board, Richard Kimble, and our members for allowing me the opportunity to host a meeting and golf outing for the Eastern Turfgrass Association on March 25. We had a great turnout and were able to finally get our association together for some fun and fellowship. I had many compliments on the course and facilities. I would also like to thank my staff for their hard work in getting the course ready for this event. It had been something I wanted to do since I started in this business.
We have received another piece of our equipment lease. The sprayer is here and will be used soon. We are still waiting on the new greens mower, it is still delayed at the factory due to Covid reasons. Hopefully, it will not be much longer, and we can get this season in full swing.
We also had Bill Anderson, Agronomist from the Carolina’s Golf Association, out this month for a course review. We went over the programs I have in place for the future and rode the course to see where improvements or corrections can be made. His report will be available for our members to review. If anyone has further questions, please feel free to ask either myself or Richard and we can get them resolved. We have several projects starting this month. They will include fairway aerification, mowing the rough down, and start-ing our mowing operations course wide. We have already completed edging and cleaning up bunkers, as well as concrete work on cart paths. Preemergent has also been completed, with a follow-up application to go out in June, this will carry us through until September or October.
Thank you to all our members and guests for allowing Coharie C.C. to be your golf destination.
Sincerely, Kevin McCamy, GCS
